Recycling Uncommon Items Challenge

What happens to some of the things that people typically don't recycled? The Earth Savers Club has created a list of items that are hard to recycle and we are challenging youth to get your community involved and participate in our national mail-in recycling drive. Additionally, we will provide each participating club a $20 reimbursement for mailing cost associated with the recycling drive. The Earth Savers Club with that has collected the most number of items all together will win a $50 mini-grant.

Even though the recycling drive is over, we will still accept these items in large quantities if you can find a way to get them to us. Please email us at info@greeningforward.org to see how we can help.

Eye Glasses

According to the World Health Organization, 284 million people worldwide suffer from poor vision simply because they do not have access to or cannot afford care. In some countries, a pair of eyewear costs more than a month?s salary. Organizations like One Sight are working to solve these issues.

Batteries

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that consumers buy approximately 3 billion batteries each year. Batteries that are not recycled and end up in landfills can leak toxic materials into the environment.

Bar Soap

The Global Soap Project recovers and recycles leftover bars of soap from and facilitates a process by which it is sanitized, melted and remolded into new bars, and then distributed to refugee camps in Africa.
